Cree introduces a breakthrough for LEDs with the revolutionary NX technology platform that will power the next generation of Cree’s lighting-class LEDs. The new NX technology platform embodies advances in a number of components and technologies, including the new Dmax LED chip, a more efficient phosphor system, new package designs and simpler manufacturing processes.
Better Lumen Density
NX technology enables breakthrough lumen density that is 50% higher than the best LEDs currently available and up to 4 times higher than Cree’s previous generation of high power LEDs. Better lumen density opens up new performance options for space-constrained designs and enables lower cost for designs with high lumen output.
Optimized for System Performance
Less optical loss
NX technology reduces system-level optical loss versus competing technologies when LEDs are placed close together on a board. This improvement translates into less wasted lumens and higher efficacy for lighting products.
Greater Design Flexibility
Cree NX technology enables innovative new designs that were not possible with lower lumen density LEDs. Unlike other technologies that were adapted from LCD backlighting applications, NX technology was designed to enable the next generation of LED lighting systems.
NX technology makes the mixing of multiple colors of LEDs significantly easier than competing technologies. Many future LED lighting applications, such as human-centric circadian lighting and horticulture lighting, are based on such multi-color LED designs.
Easier to Manufacture & Assemble
Cree NX technology eliminates the LED tilting and rotating problems after reflow soldering seen with competing technologies. These LED problems reduce LED board manufacturing yield, introduce thermal conduction issues and compromise system reliability.

Cree’s exciting NX technology platform makes possible innovative new designs, eliminating current constraints for a wide range of lighting applications such as color-mixing, directional lighting and industrial lighting.
